2/26/2024 0 Comments Deathspank tov![]() However, that is obviously not the main draw of the game, as most of your time spent in this world will be used in combat and quests. The story is very good and well told through cutscenes and Deathspank’s patented humorous dialogue. Your first task is to stop him at all costs, and things eventually get complicated from there. The thongs were given out to a variety of crazy characters, with the first one being Santa Claus. The story itself has a hilarious premise, and continues the humor through the duration of the game. However, you soon find out that power corrupts, and each of the four remaining wearers of the thongs are now evil and must be stopped. You eventually escape, and are told that the six Thongs of Power were created long ago, and given to those who were seemingly deserving of the power. After your victory you fall from grace, winding up in a prison camp and must escape to find out an explanation for the thongs. I guess a spoiler warning is in order here, but you defeat the evil Lord VonProng, and realize that he is wearing a Thong of Power, similar to the one worn by the hero Deathspank. The story picks up immediately after the events of the first game. They take a new twist with the gameplay that does make is feel somewhat fresh, but again, it was only two months since the last game, and it is time for Deathspank to be a hero for the downtrodden once again. However, they did not have the time to update the issues I had with the first one, so unfortunately they still remain. The reason for the game being released so soon was the fact that both games were being developed at the same time. ![]() Now, I know I just said that some games are more of the same, and this one definitely is, but I enjoyed the original Deathspank so much that I didn’t have a problem with the two month turnaround that was implemented here. ![]() Well it seems that the team at Hot Head games and EA are trying to capitalize on the popularity of the original Deathspank with the new sequel entitled Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue. It is usually used to describe a sequel that is released soon after the original game is has hit store shelves. The phrase more of the same comes around in gaming quite a bit. If you don't like this, you probably don't like life either.Ī review by the Remster who can reveal "Ronzo" was first used in public on July 27nd, 2004.It’s time to spank some more death, in a thong even. Thongs of Virtue is an excellent addition to the DeathSpank saga. You could probably say that it's not a game for everyone, but it certainly should be for every Mojo-er who isn't stuck on playing adventure games on the PC. It's a game built on a funny story, with hilarious dialogue and addictive gameplay. It's an old-school game, one you can sit down and play without worrying too much about remembering crazy controls and gameplay mechanisms. Really, in the end, the two games should be looked at as two parts of one larger game. The puzzles are a bit more challenging and the quests are a bit more varied. Other than that, we're mostly talking smaller changes. Sub-machine-guns and flamethrowers are found fairly early on, and the inclusion of heavier arsenal alters combat strategies significantly. So, what has changed gameplay wise? The ranged weapons are definitely a lot better. Finding caves and what not has actually become a bit more difficult, making exploration more rewarding. There is more variation between the worlds than in the first game. Not to mention the North Pole, where you take on Santa Claus, making his best appearance as a villain since the debut episode of Sam & Max's second season. You start out in a World War 2 location, and move through 'nam, the wild west, and a pirate world. The different "worlds" are more interesting this time around. That's quite a compliment as I found the first game hilarious, and this is well up there with Monkey Island even though the humor is different. Now that we've gotten to know the DeathSpank character better, the jokes hit home a little better. Of course, humor is still one of the game's most important aspects. I'm sure a replay of the first game after finishing ToV would be rewarding. Now, sure, the thongs are still ridiculous, but as their rather epic back-stories are unveiled, this game seems to be more plot focused. This is a good game. The former is certainly a good thing, as the thongs in the first game kind of felt like random plot devices primarily existing for humorous purposes. Thongs of Virtue (called ToV from here on) at that.Īnd while few things have changed from the first game (or episode or whatever) gameplay-wise, ToV does a great job of fleshing out the original story, as well as adding a new huge and varied playing area for you to explore.
